HubSpot Attribution and Lead Source
Before anyone rebuilds tracking, find out what is actually wrong. Sometimes it is the tracking. More often it is imports, integrations and report filters making good data look bad. I tell you which, and fix only what needs fixing.
Sound Familiar?
Records created by imports and integrations never touched the website, so they can never carry a UTM. They sit in the same report and make tracking look broken.
Lead forms on LinkedIn and Meta, and ad links missing UTMs, create contacts with a click but no campaign. The spend is real, the credit goes nowhere.
Workflows, enrichment tools and form settings can quietly overwrite the original value, so the first touch you are reporting on is not the first touch.
Contacts carry a source but the deals created from them do not, so revenue reporting by channel never adds up to what marketing sees.
A Real Engagement, Anonymized
A university enrollment microsite, 47 landing pages. The team was certain attribution had been broken for months and was ready to rebuild.
Tracking was firing on all 47. I sampled 7,000 contacts and found 95% carried a source. Most of the rest were records imported from another system that had never touched the website.
Genuine misses: 4 out of roughly 4,900 leads. 0.08%.
The fix was a reporting filter. I shipped no code and billed the diagnostic.
How I Fix It
01
I sample your contacts and sort every missing source into imports, integrations, untagged links and true tracking failures.
02
Untagged ad links, lead forms dropping UTMs, workflows overwriting source, deals not inheriting it. Fixed in order of how much revenue they hide.
03
Source and campaign reporting rebuilt so the numbers leadership sees match what actually happened, with the filters documented.
